George
I’ve spent my career at the intersection of Black cultural history and the entertainment industry by studying who gets to tell the story, who gets to see it, and who builds the audience that shows up. Currently: Director of Marketing at Cinema United. Always: Cultural Historian, Educator, and Musician.
What I Do
01
From Campaign to Community
I love building audiences for film and movie theaters — from the Maryland Film Festival to CinemaCon. The best marketing campaigns make people feel like the film was made for them and like moviegoing is something worth belonging to.
02
Class Is In Session
From Black American counterculture to the history of Black Queer cinema, I teach the courses most film programs haven’t gotten around to building. My research asks the same questions about Black cultural history, the archive, and what ends up on screen.
03
Sound & Score
As DJ Theodore Rexx, I curate sets rooted in fifty years of Black American sound. As a film score composer, I write music that serves the story. Both practices ask the same question: what does this moment need to feel true?
